Captain Bartholomew Roberts, pirate and buccaneer
Image information
Captain Bartholomew Roberts, pirate and buccaneer
Full-length portrait of Bartholomew Roberts (1682-1722) or 'Black Bart', with burning town in the background, no doubt after another dastardly pirate raid by Roberts and his crew. Illustration from 'A General History of the Lives and Adventures of the Most Famous Highwaymen, Murderers, Street Robbers etc, to which is added a genuine account of the voyages and plunders of the most notorious pirates, interpreted with diverting tales and pleasant songs' by Captain Charles Johnson, 1736.
