Captain Scott at the ice crack

A portrait photograph of Captain R F Scott in canvas over-clothes and balaclava looking at the camera. His left arm is raised where he is using his hand to shield his eyes from the sun. Both hands are in fur gloves. He is holding a ski pole in his right hand. Behind is a rising slope of ice and snow, slightly faint due to the bright sun shining on it. A canvas diary bag, attached to a leather belt, is tied around his waist.

Scott wrote: 'A beautiful day. Everyone out and about after Service, all the ponies going well. Went to Pressure Ridge with Ponting and took a number of photographs.'
