Cargo vessel 'Cragmoor' (1947)
Scale: 1:96. A builder's full hull model of a powered general cargo ship. The model is decked and equipped. The name 'Cragmoor' appears on the port and starboard bows, also 'Cragmoor London' on the stern. A plaque is inscribed 'Single screw motor ship Cragmoor 9190 tons deadweight Dimensions Length BP 419'7" Breadth ext 56'6" Depth Mld 29'0" Built to the order of Messrs Moor Line Ltd Newcastle-on-Tyne by William Doxford & Sons Ltd Sunderland 1947'.
It's made to a very high standard both in terms of craftsmanship and materials used. Most of the exquisite fittings have been gold-plated to prevent them from tarnishing and the paint finish on the hull, though applied by hand, is flawless. The decks and parts of the superstructure have been executed in a pale-coloured wood, with the hatch cover detailing inscribed in black penwork. A gangway, or accommodation ladder, has been rigged on the starboard side of the model, a common convention of shipbuilders' models of merchant ships of this period. It still retains its original mahogany display case, with 'ivorine' plaques, and display table.
Original size: Overall model and case: 558 mm x 1730 mm x 475 mm
