Charlotte de Berry, the female pirate
The female pirate Charlotte de Berry boards the English Ship 'Lizard'. Born in England in 1636, de Berry dressed as a man and followed her husband into the navy. She later led a mutiny aboard a ship bound for Africa, and then commanded a pirate ship ranging the African coast for treasure and gold.
Illustration from 'The History and Lives of the Most Notorious Pirates of all Nations' by Charles Johnson, published by Lloyd, c. 1836, page 65.
