Courageux' [4 Nov 1805]
A study of the hull of the 74-gun 'Courageux' ( so inscribed by the artist), which fought at Trafalgar. Why it has been dated 4 Nov 1805 - in a much later hand than Pocock's -is not yet clear. Though no mooring cable is visible, the drawing - including two small cutters shown below under sail - may show the ship laid up after the battle with her masts taken out, though this is also unlikely to have been as early as November 1805. PAD8828 is a similar view of 'Victory', possibly in the Medway post-Trafalgar.
