Creamware jug

Creamware jug, transfer-printed in black, on one side with a sailor's farewell scene: the sailor in slop hose, fancy waistcoat and buttoned jacket with a stick under his arm, a weeping lady on his arm, with the stern of a ship to his left. 'THE SAILOR'S ADIEU/What should tear me from the arms of my/Dearest Polly, but the undeniable calls of/My Country in whose cause I have engag'd/my Honour and my Life.' On the other side a portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) in frilled cuffs and shirt, a trophy of arms above. 'LORD NELSON/Nelson thy name from shore to shore shall ring/Joy to the Nation joy the England's king/Such prowess ev'ry tribute justly craves/E'en Arabs shout 'Britannnia rules the waves'.
