Creamware jug

Creamware jug, transfer-printed in black on one side, with a circular picture of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) after the portrait by Daniel Orme engraved by L. Neill. There are naval trophies shown below. Above 'ADMIRAL NELSON' around the portrait 'ENGLAND EXPECTS THAT EVERY MAN WILL DO HIS DUTY' below the trophies 'VICTORY'. On the other side of the jug is an oval profile medallion of George III inscribed 'GEORGIUS III REX' with naval trophies and a ship behind. On a yellow scroll above is 'SUCCESS TO COMMERCE', and on a red ribbon draped over the trophies 'LONG LIVE THE KING'. Under the lip of the jug is a red flower sprig. The transfers have overglaze hand-colouring in red, yellow and blue. The rim, neck and handle are painted with black lines.
