Decoration for a taffrail
Image information
Decoration for a taffrail
A careful drawing of the elaborate decoration of the taffrail, probably on an English ship, showing Neptune in a shell drawn by two seahorses, whose tails are intertwined with those of dolphins lying extended to the quarters.
Offset not rubbed on the back, from a carefully and accurately drawn original. No other drawing in this manner is known and it may be the work of neither van de Velde. It is approximately dated by the watermark.
