Dirk, after 1856

Dirk, after 1856, which belonged to Admiral Louis Henry Keppel Hamilton (1890-1957). The hilt of the dirk consists of a straight crossbar, with inversed acorn ends. On the cross on the obverse of the crossbar, in the centre is a crown over a foul anchor motif, the whole encircled by a laurel wreath. The dirk has a gilt lion's-head pommel. The white fish-skin grip is bound with three gilt wires. The straight steel blade is flat-backed, with a double-edged spear point.
