Docks
The liner 'Euripides' (1914) berthed alongside the London Docks with warehouses and cranes in the background. 'Euripides' belonged to G. Thompson & Co. Ltd, (Aberdeen White Star Line) and she was used as a cargo liner and passenger liner. Although such vessels did visit the London Docks, a large proportion of the goods entering the dock arrived in lighters, which had loaded from vessels berthed in docks further downriver. The extensive storage facilities, conveniently close to the City, had thus come to be regarded and used as an extension of the modern facilities downstream.
