A mahogany dowel: the end is slightly bulbous and terminates in a wedge shape with a slot in it. A relic of Sir John Franklin's last expedition 1845-1848 recovered by the Schwatka Search Expedition 1878-1879. The object is marked with the Royal Naval Museum, Greenwich number (8).
