Dutch shipping with a raft near the shore
A sunlit scene showing Dutch shipping near a shore. In the left foreground a raft or pont is partly visible. It is loaded with a large barrel and other items, and a man is shown leaning his elbow on the barrel. Another man is in a small boat with hand outstretched as he approaches the pont. It is possible that the figures may be repairing the pont or raft. In the centre foreground a man carrying a small barrel wades out through the shallow water towards the pont. Further out is a kaag or similar vessel with several figures on board. Her mainsail is lowered onto the deck and her sprit is at a steep angle a barrel floats nearby. On her starboard beam is a wijdschip with her mainsail set and topsail lowered. In the left background a ship is becalmed with her fore course and fore and main topsail loosed.
