Dutch ships at anchor furling sails
On the left is a bow view of a ship heeled over by men furling sails on the port yardarms. In the centre, an admiral and vice-admiral with pendants are at the main, their sails partly furled. Two other flagships are in the right distance. This drawing is one of six that are broadly carried out, but with light fluid wash, ruled horizons and lack of precision in the distant ships, suggesting the Elder's work. The work is approximately dated by style and watermark.Willem van de Velde the ElderOriginal size: 219 mm x 434 mm
