Earthenware jug commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805)

It is painted yellow with three transfer-printed panels in reserve, very crudely coloured in bright green, yellow, magenta and brown; it has a reddish-brown decorative border. One one side is a warship under sail and under the lip a boy and four sheep inscribed 'THE FAVOURATE SHEEP/A PRESENT FOR A GOOD CHILD'. On the other side of the jug, Britannia is shown mourning at a monument surmounted by an urn with a weeping willow behind. On the monument is a circular portrait inscribed 'HORATIA (sic) NELSON', 'Born Septm 29th 1758 Died Octr 21, 1805'. Beneath the print is the caption 'Britannia weeping o'er the Ashes of her Matchless Hero, LORD NELSON'.
