Egyptian caryatids
Terrestrial table globe. Geographical details on the sphere include the location of the 'Antipodes de Paris'. There are five labels in North America, one label in Africa and two in Australia. The south coast of Australia is drawn and Tasmania, which is labelled 'I. de Van Diemen', is depicted as an island. The tracks of four explorers are shown with dates, including, for example those for Columbus with the dates 1492, 1493 and of Bougainville with the dates 1768, 1769. A total of nine oceans are named.
