Equipment model; Anchor model
Scale: 1:12. A model of a proposed mooring anchor (1819). The model is made entirely in bronze and the short shank pivots so that the flukes move through an arc of about 90 degrees. The flukes are forged in a shape roughly to that of a prism with two concave sides and a bottom convex side. The securing pin passes through the flukes and shank and protrudes from the side of the flukes. The curved underside of the flukes has three holes for accommodating cable. The shank is a flattened hexagon in profile and attached to its ring is a five link chain to which is attached a larger ring. One concave face of the fluke is inscribed 'Model of a make shift anchor of about 5 ton weight invented by Lieu Wm Rodger RN August 1819. Scale of feet'.
