Equipment model

Scale: Unknown. A model of a drawing device for removing copper bolts from frigates. The model is made entirely from two metals and consists of a lower bed drilled with a circular tapering hole in the middle, and small recesses on each of the three sections of the tricorne shaped base. The upper portion is almost identical but has a slightly small tapering hole which is oval shaped and is raised by three threaded bolts with t-bars. There are two conical shaped clamps which are threaded internally, and which presumably would be pushed in on either side of the copper bolt before drawing it from the timber.

There is a hand written paper label accompanying the model which reads "First model made by grandfather of E. Hastings when Superintendant of Chatham Dockyard to draw copper bolts from frigates" and "Grandfather Thompson's model on a small scale. Invented by him".
