Erebus and stranded berg. Made just when ship struck.

A general view from Terra Nova (1884) of a stranded tabular iceberg with the volcano Erebus in the background. The Terra Nova had just steamed away from an unsafe area of McMurdo Sound when this berg came in grounded where the ship had been. The ship then ran aground on a rock. It broke free after the crew moved stores to the back of the ship and 'rolled' it from side to side with the engines in reverse. Ponting was on board when the ship struck 'I was in my lab. at the time, and the jar was sufficient to make me stagger.'

Captain Scott's published journal has this event happening on 21 January 1911 (see page 101-102) not 20 January stated in the album caption.
