Fork by George Adams zoom

Fork

A relic of Sir John Franklin's last expedition 1845-1848. A silver, fiddle-pattern table fork owned by Sir John Franklin (1786-1847). The back of the handle bears the Franklin crest-a conger eel's head, between two branches. There are three prongs only remaining and the fork has 'W C' scratched roughly on the back, seemingly indicating that it was distributed to a crew member: William Closson, Able Seaman HMS 'Erebus'.
