Full face of our Moon

This image shows the full face of our moon. Capturing earthshine on the darkened hemisphere of the Moon near first quarter phase whilst preserving a balanced illumination of the bright hemisphere is quite an achievement. The photographer focused on the dark half of the lunar disc. Papp continued shooting the dark side with the parts furthest from the terminator and finished by capturing the terminator area. To preserve the sense of the Moon caught at exactly at half phase, all the images were recorded on the same night Born digital photograph entitled 'Full face of our Moon' by András Papp taken on 8th March 2014 at Veszprémvarsány, Győr-Moson-Sopron County, Hungary. Taken with GPU Optical telescope, a Sky-watcher HEQ5 mount, a 5-inch f/9.45 telescope lens and an Imaging Source DMK41AF04 camera with a 2400mm lens and 1/192- and 2-second exposures. Winner of Our Moon category of Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2015.
