Full hull model for 'Ealing Grove' (1840)

Scale 1:48. A contemporary full hull model of the ‘Ealing Grove’ (1840) a barque-rigged merchantman. The model was made to illustrate the construction of these ships with the port side fully planked, and the starboard side partially planked with the main wale and ‘ribbans’ used to hold the frames in position prior to planking. The deck is complete with hatch coamings, stump masts and windlass at the foot of the bowsprit. Built at Redbridge near Southampton, the ‘Ealing Grove’ measured 102 feet in length by 26 feet in the beam. It traded for 30 years between London and the West Indies, but was finally wrecked on a voyage between London and Archangel in 1871-72.
