George I (1660-1727)
The king is depicted wearing coronation robes and a dark full-bottomed wig, his right hand resting on the Sovereign's Orb. The portrait is said to have been presented to Admiral Edward Vernon by the king. It is inscribed on the back 'A present from ye Royal Family'. Most of Kneller's output is likely to have originated from the accession in 1714, and from very few sittings.
