Green Energy
The shifting lights of the Aurora Borealis can take on many shapes and forms as they are moulded by the Earth's complex magnetic field. Here, sheets and planes of glowing gas appear to be twisted into a giant vortex above Grøtfjord in Norway. "The title 'Green Energy" is perfect for this image because it really does burst with life. I really love the way the energetic aurora contrasts with the serene snowy landscape below." Pete Lawrence Born digital photograph entitled 'Green Energy', by Fredrik Broms, taken on the 20th March 2013, above Grotfjord, Norway Taken with a Nikon D800 camera; Nikkor 14-24 mm f/2.8 lens at 14 mm; ISO 800; 4- second exposure Runner-up of the Earth and Space in Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2013.
