Hangings from Nelson's hammock
This material was used for the hangings round Nelson's swinging cot aboard ship. These embroideries are most likely Gujarati and feature various floral motifs. Embroidered lengths of fabric were a desirable luxury import in this period. The Chinese silk hangings with their Indian embroideries represent and interesting mix of Eastern cultures that was quite popular in Britain throughout the 18th century.
