HMS 'Colossus' (1882)

Scale: 1:48. A half block model of the port side of the turret ship HMS 'Colossus' (1882), made entirely in wood and painted pink-brown below the waterline, a narrow white stripe above and black above the waterline. Hull details include a reinforced ram bow; pair of port hawse holes; single row of square portholes; rudder; and port propeller shaft casing and mounting. Other fittings include stump foremast and mainmast; long superstructure in two parts fore and aft, extending from the bow to the stern, interrupted by two divisions amidships, and with square portholes along its length; upper deck amidships that spans the gap between the two main fore and aft superstructures; and bridge with entry ports and windows. The upper sections of the superstructures, upper deck with its support below it, and bridge are all painted green-grey. The model is displayed on a backboard painted off-white with a mahogany-stained frame. On plaque attached to top right-hand side of backboard 'Colossus'.
