HMS 'Erebus' (1856); warship and floating battery

Scale: 1:48. A shipbuilders half block design model of HMS 'Erebus' (1856), an iron screw floating battery (coastal defence / monitor). The model is made in wood using bread and butter construction and gauged out internally. The shallow-drafted hull below the waterline is finished in a copper-brown colour and fitted with a rudder at the stern and an aperture for the screw (missing), with vertical stem at the bow. The upperworks to deck level are painted black divided by a thin white line along the waterline. The hull is pierced at bulwark level with 15 gunports. The hull has a flush deck painted creamy-white, matching the colour of the backboard. The backboard has a moulded, stained mahogany edge. Number '16' on backboard.

Original size: 225 mm x 1320 mm x 185 mm
