HMS 'Greyhound' (1859)
Scale: 1:48. A shipbuilders half block model of HMS 'Greyhound' (1859), a 17-gun steam screw sloop. The model is made in wood using bread and butter construction. The hull below the waterline is finished in a copper-brown colour and fitted with a rudder at the stern with a clipper shaped bow. The upperworks to deck level are painted black divided by a thin white line along the waterline. The hull is pierced at bulwark level with eleven gunports and three channels (finished in natural wood). There is a decorative trailboard and turned scroll where the figurehead would be. The stern is complete with a shallow quarter gallery and stern galleries. The hull has a flush deck which is painted creamy-yellow, to which is fitted three stump masts, bow sprit, truncated funnel and a round conning position or bridge (?). The bow sprit and the mizzen mast are painted creamy-white with the rest of the fittings finished in natural wood. The model is mounted on a wooden backboard painted creamy-white, with a stained mahogany edging. Plaque removed.
