HMS 'London' chasing a slaving dhow near Zanzibar
The Reverend Robert O'Donelan Ross-Lewin was the Royal Navy Chaplain in 1876-77 aboard HMS 'London'. 'London' was an important instrument in the Royal Navy's anti-slavery campaign along the East Coast of Africa. The ship sailed to Zanzibar to take up her position as a stationary depot vessel to counter the slave trade and maintain a presence against European rivals in the region. Part of the Michael Graham-Stewart slavery collection.
