Horizontal pedestal dial for latitude 51˚ north
This dial, signed 'T. Crow Wateringbury fecit 1801', consists of a circular dial-plate with an hour circle round its edge. To the north of the simply-shaped gnomon and among garlands of leaves are the noon points for the sites of six famous naval battles, including St. Vincent, Camperdown and Copenhagen. There are three screw holes to allow attachment to a base. This type of dial needs to be set up so that the noon line lies across the meridian with the hours arranged symmetrically on either side.
