Horse starting
Horse starting' after Sawrey Gilpin. Gilpin was one of the most respected animal painters of his day, second only to his rival George Stubbs. This print shows a horse on rocky terrain being startled (or starting) at the sight of a snake on the ground. The engravers and publishers of this print are father and daughter team, William and Letitia Byrne. Quite a number of their engravings are found in the Herschel collection suggested the family liked their work.
