House flag, Lyle Shipping Co. Ltd

The house flag of Lyle Shipping Co. Ltd, Glasgow. A dark blue rectangular flag with a white disc in the centre bearing a blue 'L'. The flag is made of a wool and synthetic fibre bunting. It has a linen hoist and is machine sewn. A rope is attached. Founded by Alexander Park Lyle, Lyle Shipping was registered as a ship management business in 1903. The board were also involved in the ownership of a small fleet of tramp steamers with all their names beginning with 'Cape'. New ships were registered under the management company from 1910 and the business was liquidated and restarted under the same name in 1920.
