From album containing 329 albumen prints of various sizes including carte de visites. The album documents the early career of paymaster Fredrick North between 1864-1876 including his time onboard HMS 'Nassau' (1866), consisting of portraits of friends, family and colleagues, ship portraits including 'Barrosa' (1860), 'Conqueror' (1855), 'Edgar' (1858), 'Hercules' (1868), 'Liffey' (1860), 'Nassau' (1866), 'Rattlesnake' (1861) and topographical photographs including Bahia, Ballarat, Burma, Melbourne, Montevideo, New Zealand, Penang, Rio de Janeiro, Sierra Leone, Simonstown and the Cape, Suez Canal, Sumatra, Sydney and Zanzibar.
