Lifeboat carriage

Scale: Unknowm. A model of a horse-drawn lifeboat carriage, possibly incomplete, made in oak and metal. The frame for harnessing the horse is broken and incomplete at both tethering points and is hinged at two points by a single long brass rod. A wide, shallow equipment box with openable weather-proofed lid can be secured in the closed position using two clips. The wishbone suspension and chassis fixings, axle and hoops on the wheels, are made of black-painted or patinated iron. The adjustable lifeboat cradle is mounted on a turntable swivel mechanism which rotates and is removeable. The spokes, bosses and rims of the wheels are wood with metal fittings. The wooden frame is carved in an irregular 'vernacular' form.Original size: 190 mm x 420 mm x 260 mm
