Lord Hugh Seymour (1759-1801)
A half-length portrait to left in vice-admiral's full-dress uniform, 1795-1812. A son of the first Marquis of Hertford, Seymour was a captain by the age of twenty and saw considerable action in the American War, including at Howe's relief of Gibraltar in 1782. He was a member of the Board of Admiralty from 1795 to 1798 and during this time was instrumental in introducing epaulettes into the naval uniform.
