'Lowestoft', port 3/4 bow

Scale: 1:48. A Navy Board full hull model of the 'Lowestoft' (1723), a 20-gun sixth-rate sloop. This single deck vessel was 106 feet long and 28 feet broad, and weighed about 375 tons. It carried 140 men and twenty 6-pound guns. The 'Lowestoft' was launched at Portsmouth in 1723 and served first on the New York station until 1728 when it moved to the Mediterranean. It returned to North America, to South Carolina, in 1731, came back to the North Sea in 1733, and re-crossed the Atlantic to Newfoundland in 1734. In 1736-41 it served under Captain Charles Drummond on the Antigua station based at English Harbour. It returned to Britain in 1741 and was sold in 1744.
