Martini-Enfield Pattern 1876

Carbine. The stock is fitted with steel butt plate. The fore-end is secured by pins to the barrel and has a steel nose cap which incorporates a band passing over the barrel itself. The lock is a falling block of the Peabody-Martini Enfield form. The barrel is circular, fitted with blade foresight and tangent leaf sight at rear. The calibre is 0.303in. Inscribed on the right side of action is a crown over 'VR' over 'ENFIELD' over '1876' over crown and arrow over 'II' over '2'. It is probable that this weapon was originally a Martini-Henry 0.577/450 of 1876 which was reduced to 0.303 in 1896. Used as Yeoman Cavalry issue. See also AAA2561.
