Photograph of Mary Henrietta Kingsley's funeral cortege at Simonstown. The ship alongside the pier is a Torpedo Boat. Miss Mary Henrietta Kingsley was born circa 1862 and died of Typhoid on 3 June 1900 while serving as a nurse during the Boar War. She was well known as an ethnographic specialist in West Africa, traveller, and outspoken eccentric.
Upon her request she was buried at sea.
