Medal commemorating the opening of the Birkenhead docks, 1847. Obverse: Starboard-quarter view of a full rigged ship under sail. Legend: 'THE BIRKENHEAD COMMISSIONERS DOCKS, OPENED BY VISCOUNT MORPETH M. P. 5TH. APRIL 1847.' Reverse: Inscription above a semicircular oak wreath with the arms of the town in its centre.
