Mortising machine model

Scale: Unknown. A model of a mortising machine made entirely in metal with component parts made of brass and steel. At one end of the model is a large six spoked wheel painted black, and a large handle for operating the model. Two mortises are cut by the chisel shaped tools held and are worked by the vertical sliding frame in the front. There is a table in which the block is held and worked along in a horizontal direction under the tool by means of a ratchet wheel and screw worked by the machine itself, thus cutting the mortises of the required length. The rectangular baseboard is made of metal which has been grained to resemble mahogany. On base of model: 'B'. The machine is mounted within a brass frame surmounted by four brass columns.
