National flag of the German Democratic Republic (1959-1990)
The national flag of the German Democratic Republic, 1959-1990 pattern. It is made of synthetic fibre bunting, the hoist is made from fabric of a cotton and linen blend. The flag is machine sewn with the design printed onto the fabric. A rope and two aluminium clips are attached to hoist the flag. Written in biro on the hoist 'Ã”Ã²Ã¡â”¬Â©ST TYSKELAND'. Design: three black, red and yellow horizontal stripes. In centre a yellow wreath of wheat, within which is a device of a hammer and compasses. The wheat represents the peasants, the hammer â”œÂ½Ã”Ã»Ãªâ”œÃ¯ industrial workers, the compasses -science and industry, the whole on a red disc symbolising communist ideology.
