'Nore' (Br, 1796)
Scale: Unknown. A model of the Trinity House lightship 'Nore' (1796), made in wood and painted in realistic colours. The hull is carved from a solid block and painted off-white below the waterline and black above. The hull has a deep keel with a prominent fore foot and stem post, and is bluff bowed. The deck is painted yellow ochre with black fittings. Deck fittings include: an uncovered hatch, a single mast, stove pipe, square grating, and two bilge pumps. The mast is positioned amidships and two navigation lights are rigged from a yard. The navigation lights are made from wood, hexagonal in shape and painted with horizontal glazing bars. The standing rigging is positioned asymmetrically to accommodate the yard. A large red flag flies from the top of the mast. A cabin is positioned at the stern with a black painted roof and on its forward bulkhead there is an entry port and two square portholes. A black painted stove pipe projects from the forward end of the roof. A rudder has been rigged to a rope which is paid off on the port and starboard sides and the tiller is positioned beneath a belfry. A pair of anchors are stowed from two catheads on the port and starboard bows, and there is a windlass at the forward end of the deck rigged to the anchors, its cable stowed below the deck. The model still has its original rectangular wooden baseboard but is not attached to it.
