Obverse of Gunter quadrant
This is a horary quadrant marked with Gunter scales and a surveyor's shadow square in the top third. It is signed 'I.P. fecit Oxo' and is the work of the late 17th century Oxford instrument maker John Prujean. It has a rotating rojas dial marked with constellations and an alidade, or rule, on the reverse. Accessories including the cord, plumb and bead have been removed since 1994. Other instruments by Prujean can be found at the Museum of the History of Science, Oxford.
