The photographer is in the hold looking forward showing the decked forecastle fitted with two windlasses and central bitts. The mainmast, the bowsprit and the timber platform under the bowsprit have not yet been fitted. Other junks, sampans and buildings are in the background. The photographer was at Singapore on four occasions during 1937 and 1938: 9 April to 1 May 1937, 13 January to 26 February 1938, 9 March to 23 March 1938 and 17 September to 30 September 1938.
