Ordnance model; Gun model; Sectional model
Scale: 1:8. Sectional design model depicting a gun deck (circa 1827). The model is complete with two guns, which have been cast and turned in iron, and mounted on two different patterns of carriage. One gun is mounted on a standard pattern four wheel carriage and is rigged with a breech rope tied to ring bolts on the bulwarks. The other gun is mounted on a proposed carriage; the after end resembles a wooden carriage with a pair of wheels, whilst the forward end is supported on a pivoting bracket with a crutch on top and a wheel allowing movement when traversing a gun on deck. The recoil breech rope has been replaced by a chain. The outboard part of the model is painted black whilst the inboard is painted white from the deck up and black elsewhere. The deck has been stamped with Museum of Artillery numbers, the standard pattern gun is numbered '6535' the proposed pattern gun is numbered '6534'. On the outboard bulwarks a Rotunda Museum catalogue number is painted '25/294'.
