Percussion pistol, 1856 pattern
Percussion pistol, 1856 pattern. The stock is fitted with a brass buttcap, trigger guard and fore-end cap with a ramrod pipe. There is a single 'Lovell' washer fitted for the sidenail on the left side. The swivel iron ramrod enters the stock via the pipe. The buttcap is fitted with an iron swivel ring for a lanyard. The pistol has sidelock percussion lock. The trigger projects through a brass plate inside the guard. The barrel consists of a circular external section, rifled with five grooves, and has a right hand twist. There is a blade foresight but no rearsight is evident and there are indications that the sight has been removed. The calibre is 0.577in. The lockplate is engraved with the inscription 'Crown TOWER 1874'. The barrel is stamped with the number '25' and an indistinct proof mark.
