Plan of Charlestown, South Carolina, 1780

A plan of the town, bar, harbour and environs, of Charlestown in South Carolina, with all the channels, soundings, sailing-marks. From the surveys made in the colony; engraved by William Faden, Charing Cross, 1780. The chart was published as news was arriving in Britain of Clinton and Cornwallis's victory over the American rebel army at Charleston, the most costly American defeat of the Revolutionary War.
