Scale: 1:33 000 (bar). Cartographic Note: Graduated map, meridian of London. Scale in British statute miles. Additional Places: Caribbean, Lesser Antilles. Contents Note: Settlement plots numbered. Anchorages shown. The map is dedicated to Thomas Shirley, the Governor of Dominica, Text notes report the progress of land allocation and state that the Goverment reserves the right to erect fortifications on coastal land.

At the end of the Seven Years War in 1763, France ceded the islands of Dominica, St Vincent, Bequia, Grenada and Tobago to Britain. The Government parcelled up the land for sale or lease to sugar planters.
