Manufactured in the UK
White biscuit porcelain jug, glazed inside, commemorating the opening of the first successful transatlantic cable in 1866. The exterior is moulded to represent a length of transatlantic cable, as are the rim and handle. In relief on the neck is a representation of the Royal Standard and US national flag. Inscribed on a length of telegraphic tape around the base is 'EUROPE AND AMERICA ARE UNITED BY TELEGRAPH. GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST AND ON EARTH PEACE GOODWILL TOWARDS MEN' (the first message transmitted beneath the Atlantic).
