A photographic ambrotype quarter plate. A full length photograph of Joseph Edwin Moore standing in front of a brick building with a window and garden trellis against the wall. The sitter is wearing pale trousers and dark belt, and a sailor's shirt with its wide collar and a black necktie. Moore is believed to have run away to sea aged 13 and later joined the Royal Navy, obtaining the rank of Petty Officer.
