Portrait of a Dutch bezan yacht
Image information
Portrait of a Dutch bezan yacht
Here, a Dutch bezan yacht is depicted from the starboard quarter. The sail is lying over the boom and there are a few details forward shown. On the tafferel, and within an oval rail, are the arms of Holland on a crowned shield. The arms are supported by two sea-gods riding on dolphins and surrounding conches. A small gun is depicted on the quarter.
This drawing illustrates an accurately-drawn hull with a free pencil drawing of the sail lying over the boom combined with neat drawing of the decoration and a rather heavy wash. Only in the drawing of the foredeck is there any weakness.
